Review: Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic
Intro: With Shounens a lot of days which are Bleach,Naruto,One Piece, and Fairy Tail, they easily overshadow other shounens that are very much unique. Magi just happens to be one of the shows that seemed overshadowed to me. Certainly, a world of magic, wonder and adventure are what Magi purely provides. Story: Aladdin is set to explore a world with his fellow blue friend, residing in his flute: Ugo, as he has awakened in a room which he resided for most of his life. Later, Aladdin discovers that he is a Magi, a powerful magician who chooses a king with the will to lead the world into a righteous path. On his journey he meets diverse characters and make friends who travel with him on his adventure. A story based on the Arabian Nights, he meets Alibaba, Sinbad and many more referencing characters from the Arabian Nights Character And The Voices: Aladdin: The magi himself, he is one of the 4 magis in existance. He is a cheerful, optimistic young boy. Voiced by Kaori Ishihara who is also Madoka from Rinne no Lagrange, Azusa from Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko, and Sayu from Nagi no Asukara. Alibaba: The king Aladdin has chosen, he was a prince of a kingdom and now an ordinary citizen. He is Best Friends with Aladdin and very skilled in swordplay. Voiced by Yuki Kagi who is also Eren from Shingeki no Kyojin, Haruyuki from Accel World, and Rentarou from Black Bullet. Morgiana: A slave girl who is from a powerful race of fearsome warriors. Her kicks and strength are very notable, her strength is something to be admired and feared. Voiced by Haruka Tomatsu who is also Naruko from AnoHana, LaLa from To-Love Ru, Asuna from SAO, and Saki from Kakumeiki Valvrave. Some interesting cast of characters here~ Music: The 1st and 2nd opening do a great job of introducing the viewer of how the adventerous the anime feels, so kudos on that. The OST is composed of epic orchestra, some sexy, rockin, hard guitar, dark and solemn tones, the obligated arab tracks (that are quite well done), some freespirited tonesand battle tracks. I love the track overall, a strong point in the show. OST Track here(Copy and Paste): http://goo.gl/ijLjlQ Artwork: Comparing to other shounen, the anime doesn't experience a side effect of the quality being stretched, and budget being squeezed like other Shounens. The animation is well done, backgrounds detailed nicely, and characters drawn to a good balance. The animation sometime cuts away from their current style, and draws their characters in simplified ways, or into what I think are Chibis in comedic scenes, which is very enjoyable. The animation does have some lazily drawn characters and backgrounds, with some weird jagged edges on some scenes too. Final Comments: This anime is certainly not to be missed by anyone, especially Shounen lovers out there. The anime has wonderful characters all around, you'll definantly have a great memory of them, I know I have, so have others I know who have watched. Alibaba, Aladdin, and Morgiana, develope over a long way of just 25 episodes, you definantly see them grow and push the story. The narrative of the story grabs your attention of what is to come next of each episode, as if the watcher are watching a storybook unfold. The anime is not only entertaining, but the plot, music, artwork and characters give it a solid backbone. |
